I Hope You Dance
Let me inspire you to dance! To dance can mean many things to many people, but to me to dance means to be free. Free of what other people think of me, free of the way things should be, free of myself and all the limitations my mind puts on my life. I am just starting to dance, it has taken me years of suffering to begin. It is my dream to help you to learn. Forget about what you have been taught. Freedom from everything is right around the corner if you but dare to take the first step and ...Dance!
Dance!
Have a lasting peace
Know what is truth for you
Be free of judgment
Share what you have learned
Dance,Adam
dance, Eve
dance, oh human,
because you are free!
Set free by a Creator's hand
You are not welded to any fate.
You are not bound to any demons.
You are not chained to any gods.
Dance with your hands and eyes!
Dance with every part of your body,
dance like a ray of sunlight in moving waters,
dance like a colorful leaf in fall,
dance under the cupola of the cosmos
the dance of a human.
Show in your moves
the evolution in humankind
from greed to passionate longing!
And during the dance one bandage after another
will fall from your eyes,
and you will see
how all things flow
toward one and the same mystery.
And you will dance to the point
where heaven and earth,
I and you are one.
- From The Dancing Prophet, by Martin Gutl
The concept of "I Hope You Dance" comes from a country song recorded by Lee Ann Womack. It is an emotional work of art written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillars. The song is a heartfelt plea from one mind to many. It strives to convey encouragement to keep on going. It urges it's listeners to dance even if one feels like just quitting.
Some of the words to the song:
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give fate the fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

Great post!
It reminds me of the essay, "Geek Dancing" by Robert Fulghum (one of my all time favorite authors) in "It Was on Fire When I Lay Down On It."
Dancing isn't about the show, it's about expressing your exuberance for life.
