Create a Gap

Create a gap! Remember those three little words and you will be well on your way to being in the Now and on your path to peace!

When you sit and think about something terrible that happened in the past, that might happen in the future or IS HAPPENING NOW.... create a small gap in your mind stream. Tolle says to do this by "simply directing the focus of your attention into the now".

You can achieve this quite easily by seeing what is on your desk, looking out of the window of your home, or counting the yellow lines on the road. It does not matter what you are doing... just create a small gap in your thinking!

If you are laying in bed worrying... stop... and breathe deeply in and out while counting your breathes. This brings your mind to the here and now.It is only the here and now that matters most.

The absolute best time you can use this advice is when you are involved in something negative RIGHT NOW. Say your husband is pushing your buttons and you are getting angry. CREATE A SMALL GAP IN YOUR MINDSTREAM NOW!

Rather then the usual yelling back in self defense... pull your attention out of your pre-programmed responses and take some deep breathes while counting...

You will create a gap in your thinking/actions and will be able to respond from your whole self... not the one who reacts out of fear.

Create a gap! Remember it!
